Asante Samuel was traded to the Falcons today for a 7th round pick in this year’s 2012 NFL Draft.
The Eagles already have Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Nnamdi Asomugha, and there is no real “elite” quarterback in the NFC East right now.
Atlanta is somehow trying to neutrilize the amount of passing in the NFC South with the addition of a player that has experience and a super bowl ring with the Patriots. Last year, Samuel recorded 34 tackles, 3 interceptions and a fumble returned for a touchdown.
On the flipside, Samuel was nice enough to restructure a deal thats worth around $18M over the course of three seasons. This will help cut the spending for the Falcons, and help them out in a passing division. The next question? Will Samuel be the answer for the Falcons with a division that holds quarterbacks Drew Brees and Cam Newton? The trade solidifies the Atlanta cornerback postition with already seasoned guys like Brent Grimes and Dunta Robinson.
With Atlanta not having a first round pick and only 5 total picks in tomorrow’s draft, it will be interesting to see what the organization does. Was trading for Julio Jones worth it?
